Today Travis started his college life, even though he is only a junior in HS. Here in Washington State the school districts have a program called "running start" - it allows Jrs and Srs in High School to attend a community college to complete their high school credits that they need. It also allows them to work on their AA degree, and possibly get it done. The cool part? - The school district pays his tuition!! What a deal. He was very nervous, and I got a text from him after his first class that read "Wow, this is weird". He will do fine, although he might have to put a little more effort into his classes then he is used to. Go Travis!!
Nikki is also starting her classes at Highline - but she has night classes and she is working full time.

That time of the year!
Anybody who knows Rick, knows that this is his time of the year. Hunting! He just got back from a two week hunting trip with his brother Terry. Terry drew out on a special archery elk hunt in southern Utah and Rick went to help him out. Once when Rick called I asked him if he was having a fun time, and he said "I don't know that I'd call it fun, its a lot of hard work." They would get up before sunrise (4-5 am) and hike the hills all day long, before getting back to camp at 10 or 11 pm. One day he told me he sat in a tree for 8 hours, watching and looking for "the big" elk. They heard lots of bugling and called several elk in but couldn't get a good shot. On the last day of the hunt, Terry got one. Success! I have posted a few pictures. These pictures were all taken by Rick with his cell phone while he was hunting. Ricks face looks different yet again, no shaving for two weeks. And when he got home - he just had the mustache and a goatee. I'll try to get a picture of that and post it. "The many looks of Rick!"

First day of middle school
Nathan started middle school this last week (Sept. 2). Ahh! where did the time go -- my youngest in middle school!?! Its hard to believe, I guess that just means I'm getting older. I even went school with him on the first day (it was a 6th graders only day and parents were invited), but ended up leaving early because he found a friend and was with him and I was just kind of following him around. He was doing fine and so I told him I was going to leave and I'd see him after school. He said OK and bye. He got home all in one piece - nothing happened - he did it! What was I worried about?? Lakota Middle School has uniforms, so we are working on a whole new wardrobe for Nathan.
